Ultraviolet (UV) camera filter B+W 010 BASIC 46 mm
The B+W 010 BASIC Ultraviolet (UV) camera filter, 46 mm, reduces ultraviolet light and helps improve image clarity and contrast while protecting the front element of the lens from dust, fingerprints and splashes. With a Multi Resistant Coating (MRC) that lowers reflections, the filter is color-neutral and highly transparent, so it can remain mounted during shooting without affecting exposure or color rendering. The slim design and robust glass make it suitable for outdoor and active photography where front-lens protection is required.
The B+W 010 BASIC provides optical protection at a fraction of the cost of repairing or replacing a lens. Its MRC coating reduces reflections and makes the surface easier to clean, while the filter’s neutral transmission preserves original colors and contrast. Because it is highly transparent and low-reflection, no exposure compensation is necessary when using the filter, and it minimizes the risk of front-element contamination that can reduce image sharpness.
Screw the filter onto the lens thread of any 46 mm lens until it is secure but not overtightened. The filter can remain mounted for normal shooting; its neutral transmission means no exposure compensation is required. Clean the coated surface gently with a microfiber cloth or lens tissue and appropriate cleaning solution when necessary to remove fingerprints or dust. For persistent dirt, use a blower first, then a soft brush and finish with a lint-free cloth.
For digital cameras with smaller sensors and greater depth of field sensitivity, maintain the filter clean to avoid loss of sharpness from front-element soiling. When frequently changing filters or lens caps in windy or sandy conditions, store filters in a protective case to prevent scratches and contamination.
