Ultraviolet (UV) camera filter B+W BASIC 010 49 mm Black
The B+W BASIC 010 Ultraviolet (UV) camera filter for 49 mm lenses reduces ultraviolet light transmission to minimize atmospheric haze and improve clarity in outdoor photography. It also provides a protective glass layer over the front element of the lens to guard against scratches, dust and light impacts while maintaining the optical characteristics of the attached lens. The filter is supplied in a single-piece pack and has a black filter ring that matches many lens finishes.
The B+W BASIC 010 UV filter selectively blocks UV light while allowing visible light to pass with minimal color shift, helping to produce clearer images in bright daylight and at high altitudes. Its slim profile and black ring reduce the risk of vignetting on wide-angle lenses. The filter serves as an economical protective accessory that preserves the front element and simplifies cleaning compared with direct contact to the lens glass.
Screw the filter clockwise onto the front thread of a compatible 49 mm lens until it is hand-tight; avoid over-tightening. Use the filter during daylight outdoor shooting to reduce UV-related haze and when you want to protect the front element from physical damage. Clean the filter surface with a microfibre cloth or lens cleaning tissue and a suitable cleaning fluid when necessary. Remove the filter for specialized optical effects or when using certain polarizers or neutral density filters that may require different stacking order.
For best results, use the UV filter primarily as a protective cover and for general haze reduction in daylight conditions. When stacking multiple filters, check for vignetting at wide focal lengths and always store the filter in a protective case when not in use to keep the optical surface free from scratches and dust.
