Camera lens filter Calumet CALSAB1452 — Mist filter, 52 mm
Calumet CALSAB1452 is a 52 mm Black Mist (softening) camera lens filter designed to reduce contrast and introduce a subtle diffusion or glow around highlights. Constructed from Japanese AGC glass with 6H surface hardness and finished with 28 multilayer coatings, this ultra-slim filter produces a gentle blur that softens skin tones, reduces the appearance of small imperfections, and creates atmospheric highlights without significantly altering color balance. The filter is mounted in a slim aerospace-grade aluminum frame with unscrewing tabs and double threading for stacking additional filters or accessories; a protective storage box is included.
The 28-layer coating system combines hydrophobic, oleophobic, scratch-resistant and anti-reflective treatments to improve durability, ease of cleaning and optical performance while minimizing flare and unwanted reflections. Japanese AGC glass ensures neutral color rendering and reliable mechanical strength. The ultra-slim 3.3 mm frame prevents vignetting on wide-angle lenses and the integrated tabs simplify mounting and removal. Double threads provide compatibility for stacking filters or attaching adapter rings.
Screw the Calumet 52 mm Black Mist filter onto the front thread of a lens with a 52 mm filter thread (check the lens or lens cap for the Φ marking). The filter can remain mounted during shooting; for stronger diffusion effects consider using longer focal lengths or slightly wider apertures. For stacked setups, use the double threading to attach additional filters or accessories. Clean the filter gently using a microfiber cloth and recommended lens-cleaning fluid to preserve coatings. When not in use, store the filter in the supplied protective box to prevent scratches and contamination.
For natural-looking portraits, start with subtle diffusion and stop down or increase strength only if needed. In low-light or night scenes, experiment with exposure and white balance to balance the glow from highlights. Avoid heavy cleaning with abrasive materials; use soft, lint-free cloths and a few drops of lens cleaner to maintain the multilayer coatings.
