Camera lens Mist filter Calumet 58 mm (CALSAB1458) black/transparent, 1 pc
Calumet 58 mm Mist filter (CALSAB1458) is a slim diffusion filter that reduces contrast and introduces a soft glow around highlights while preserving overall image integrity. Designed for lenses with a 58 mm thread, this single black/transparent filter scatters light to create a subtle “mist” effect, soften minor skin imperfections and introduce a cinematic, dreamlike atmosphere in portraits, landscapes and night scenes. The filter uses Japanese AGC glass and a slim aircraft-grade aluminium frame with tabs for easier handling; a protective storage box is included.
The filter features 28 multilayer coatings including hydrophobic, oleophobic, scratch-resistant and anti-reflective layers to reduce reflections, resist smudges and simplify cleaning. Japanese AGC glass with 6H hardness preserves colour neutrality and resists mechanical damage. The 3.3 mm ultra-slim aerospace aluminium frame reduces vignetting on wide-angle lenses and the double-thread design allows stacking with additional filters or accessories. Tabs on the frame make mounting and removal straightforward.
Screw the Calumet 58 mm Mist filter onto the front thread of a lens with a matching 58 mm diameter by aligning the threads and turning clockwise until secure. Use the tabs on the frame to loosen or tighten the filter as needed. Compose and expose as usual; the filter will diffuse highlights and lower local contrast, producing a soft glow around light sources. For stronger diffusion effects, consider combining with other filters or using a model with a higher diffusion rating; for subtler results, use minimal exposure adjustments and avoid over-sharpening in post-processing.
To maintain image quality, keep the filter clean using a soft blower and microfibre cloth, and store it in the provided protective box when not in use. When shooting wide angle lenses, check for vignetting; the ultra-slim frame helps reduce it but stacking many filters can reintroduce shading. Choose the degree of diffusion according to the subject: milder diffusion for portraits, stronger diffusion for night lights or deliberate filmic effects.
