Camera lens Mist filter Calumet CALSAB1477 — 77 mm
Calumet CALSAB1477 is a 77 mm Mist filter designed to create subtle diffusion by softening highlights and reducing contrast. The Black Mist SMC Ultra Slim model uses high-quality Japanese AGC glass and a slim aircraft-grade aluminum frame to deliver a delicate “fog” effect around bright areas while preserving natural color balance. The single-piece 77 mm filter mounts on any lens with a compatible 77 mm thread and includes a protective box for safe storage and transport.
The Calumet Black Mist SMC Ultra Slim features 28 multilayer coatings that improve durability, reduce reflections and make the surface easier to clean. Hydrophobic and oleophobic treatments help repel water and fingerprints, while a scratch-resistant layer and 6H hardness Japanese AGC glass minimize mechanical damage without altering color temperature. The slim 3.3 mm aircraft-aluminum frame with unscrewing tabs ensures a low-profile fit and convenient handling. Double threading enables stacking of additional filters or accessories.
Screw the Calumet 77 mm Mist filter onto a lens with a matching 77 mm thread until it sits securely; use the frame tabs to assist with tightening or removal if needed. Compose and expose your shot as usual: the filter scatters incoming light to lower contrast, produce a gentle blur and generate subtle glow around highlights. For portraits check focus carefully and consider slightly increasing aperture for more defined eyes while keeping the overall softening effect. For night or backlit scenes, adjust exposure to control highlight bloom and avoid overexposure of bright sources.
Choose the strength of diffusion based on the intended effect: use weaker diffusion for natural-looking portraits and stronger diffusion for pronounced atmospheric or cinematic looks. Clean the filter with a microfiber cloth and mild optical cleaner to preserve coating integrity; store the filter in its protective box when not in use. When stacking filters, monitor potential vignetting on wide-angle lenses and test exposure compensation when shooting in challenging lighting.
