Camera lens filter Calumet CALSASMC58 — Ultraviolet (UV) filter, 58 mm
Calumet CALSASMC58 is a 58 mm ultraviolet (UV) camera lens filter designed to reduce ultraviolet light and provide front-element protection for compatible lenses. Made from Japanese AGC optical glass with light transmission of approximately 99.6%, this single-pack filter features a slim aerospace-aluminum frame and multilayer coatings to reduce haze, minimize reflections, and resist water, oil and scratches. The filter screws onto lenses with a 58 mm thread and includes a protective storage box for transport and safe keeping.
The Calumet UV SMC Ultra Slim 28 Layers filter combines high light transmission with comprehensive surface protection. Twenty-eight multilayer coatings (fourteen on each side) include hydrophobic, oleophobic, anti-reflective and scratch-resistant layers, plus a hardening treatment to reach 6H surface hardness. The slim 3.3 mm aircraft-grade aluminum frame keeps vignetting to a minimum and features tabs for easier mounting and removal. The filter’s double-thread design allows stacking of additional filters or accessories.
Select a 58 mm filter to match the lens’s front thread diameter (marked on the lens or cap with the Ø symbol). Mount the Calumet UV filter by gently screwing it onto the lens thread until secure; avoid overtightening. The tabs on the frame assist removal when needed. Use the filter continuously in outdoor conditions to protect the front element, or install it as required to reduce UV-related haze and preserve image clarity. Clean the surface with a microfiber cloth and a suitable optical cleaner to remove fingerprints, water spots or dust.
For best results, leave the UV filter mounted during outdoor shoots to provide continuous protection and to reduce haze in distant scenes. When stacking filters, check for potential vignetting on wide-angle lenses; remove or use a slim filter if necessary. Store the filter in the supplied protective box when not in use and avoid abrasive cleaners to preserve the multilayer coatings.
