HOYA's HD Mk II IRND FILTER KIT contains three 82 mm neutral density filters (IRND 8, IRND 64 and IRND 1000) in a compact carry pouch. The kit is intended to provide photographers with a set of commonly used ND densities to control exposure, motion blur and depth of field while maintaining accurate color rendering thanks to ACCU-ND IR-cut technology. How to use

Attach the appropriate IRND filter to the front of an 82 mm lens by screwing it onto the filter thread. Use IRND8 to reduce light modestly for wider apertures (for example f/1.2–f/1.4) in bright conditions and achieve a shallow depth of field without overexposure. Use IRND64 to slow shutter speeds for motion blur of water, clouds or moving subjects while keeping aperture moderate to avoid diffraction. Use IRND1000 for very long exposures in daylight or when you need extreme light reduction; combine filters if a higher combined density is required. When stacking filters, verify for vignetting and compose accordingly.

Usage recommendations

Before shooting, meter the scene with the filter attached or use the camera’s live exposure preview to determine the required shutter speed and ISO. When using very high densities (IRND1000 or stacked filters), use a sturdy tripod, remote release or self-timer and mirror lock-up (if available) to avoid camera shake. Clean the coated surfaces with a microfiber cloth and appropriate cleaning fluid to preserve the water- and oil-repellent coating.
