How to use

Screw the Hoya SPARKLE 6X onto a 72 mm lens thread and rotate the front frame to set the desired angle of the six-point star. Compose so that point light sources (stars, distant lights, reflections) are included in the frame; the cross effect originates from single point sources and may not appear for broad or tubular lights such as fluorescent tubes. Adjust aperture, focal length and exposure to control the visibility and intensity of the star effect: smaller apertures and brighter point sources increase the prominence of rays, while telephoto focal lengths strengthen the soft effect. For astrophotography, focus on bright stars to achieve crisp six-point stars.

Usage recommendations

For best results, use the SPARKLE 6X with distinct point light sources and darker backgrounds; move farther from large or diffuse lights if the effect is unclear. If images are too dark when shooting illuminated scenes, increase exposure compensation; reduce it if images are too bright. Be aware that very wide angles can distort rays, and at very small apertures (around f/22) rays may appear dotted. In some backlit or very strong-light conditions a mesh-shaped flare may occur.
