Step drill bit Cimco 20 1209
Step drill bit Cimco 20 1209 is an HSS step drill designed to create perfectly round, cylindrical holes in a range of diameters in a single operation. It combines centring, drilling, stepwise enlargement and deburring, and is suitable for hand drills and bench drills. The bit works on sheet and plate metal, profiles and tubes made from steel, brass, copper, aluminium, V2A stainless steel, as well as on plastic and wood up to 3 mm thickness. The shank diameter is 12 mm.
The HSS construction provides good cutting performance across a variety of materials. An additional TiN (titanium nitride) coating applied after hardening produces an extremely hard and smooth surface, allowing higher cutting speeds and reducing wear. The coating increases tool life by approximately five to ten times compared with uncoated tools, resulting in faster, more durable drilling.
Mark the desired hole position and secure the workpiece to prevent movement. Fit the Cimco 20 1209 step drill into a compatible drill chuck with a 12 mm capacity and set the drill to an appropriate speed for the material. Start drilling with light pressure to centre, then apply steady feed while progressing through the steps to achieve the required hole diameter. Withdraw periodically to clear chips and reduce heat. After drilling, deburr the hole edge if necessary.
Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant on ferrous materials to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Select lower speeds for harder materials such as stainless steel and higher speeds for softer materials like aluminium. Always secure the workpiece and wear suitable personal protective equipment.
