Lens Calibration Tool Datacolor SpyderLensCal Compatibility Canon Nikon
The Datacolor SpyderLensCal is a compact lens calibration tool for Canon and Nikon cameras that helps measure and correct autofocus performance for camera-plus-lens combinations. It provides a reliable method to verify whether a lens and camera are focusing accurately, and it includes an integrated level and a tripod mount for stable setup. The device is lightweight and designed for easy transport and use in both studio and field situations.
SpyderLensCal provides a fast and repeatable way to assess autofocus accuracy without complex procedures. It supports storage of AF correction values in cameras that offer micro-adjustment settings, enabling photographers to correct front- or back-focus issues and restore peak lens performance. The tool’s compact size, durability, and built-in tripod mount simplify alignment and help produce consistent results.
Mount the SpyderLensCal on a tripod and level it using the integrated bubble. Position the camera on a tripod facing the target at the recommended distance for the lens focal length, ensuring the chart is perpendicular to the optical axis. Attach the lens and focus using the camera’s autofocus on the calibration target. Review the captured images to determine if front- or back-focus is present, then enter the corrective micro-adjustment values into your camera’s AF fine-tune or micro-adjustment menu according to the camera manufacturer’s instructions.
Perform calibration at the focal length and aperture most often used, and repeat the check for multiple focus distances if you use zoom lenses. Calibrate each lens individually and record the adjustment values in your camera’s custom settings for reliable autofocus performance.
