Forstner Drill Bit Dedra 20 mm – wood Forstner bit, model 0783A20
Forstner Drill Bit Dedra 20 mm is a precision woodworking bit designed to create flat-bottomed, clean-edged holes in wood. With a 20 mm cutting diameter, this Forstner bit is suitable for use with hand drills and drill presses to bore overlapping, angled or partial-depth holes. It is intended for cabinetry work, hinge cup holes, dowel holes and other tasks where accurate, smooth-sided bores are required.
The bit produces flat bottoms and minimal tear-out at the hole edges thanks to its centering spur and cutting rim. It cuts clean, smooth-sided holes suitable for concealed hinge cups and precision dowelling. Compatible with both hand-held drills and drill presses, the Forstner geometry enables angled and overlapping holes as well as partial-depth boring. Its 20 mm diameter provides a common size for cabinet fittings and joinery tasks.
Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement. Select the appropriate drill speed for the wood type (lower speeds for hardwoods). Mount the Forstner bit in the drill chuck ensuring it is seated straight. For accurate positioning, mark the centre and, if needed, start the cut with a shallow pilot to stabilise the bit. Apply steady feed pressure and allow the bit to cut; withdraw periodically to clear chips when drilling deep or overlapping holes. Finish by sanding the hole edges lightly if necessary.
Use clamps and a drill guide or press when repeatable accuracy is required. For best results in hardwoods, use moderate speeds and clear chips frequently. Avoid excessive side load to maintain bit life and hole quality.
