Brad point drill bit DeWalt DT4514-QZ, length 160 mm, single piece
DeWalt DT4514-QZ is a single-piece brad point drill bit with a 160 mm overall length, designed for precise drilling in wood and wood-based panels. The brad point tip ensures accurate centring and a clean entry, while the peripheral cutting edges and shoulders produce tear-free holes. Manufactured from chrome-vanadium alloy, the bit combines rigidity and wear resistance for repeated use in joinery, furniture making and general woodworking tasks.
The brad point geometry gives positive location on the workpiece and reduces walking at the start of the hole. Two shoulders and peripheral cutting edges cut a clean circumference and minimise splintering on both entry and exit when drilling plywood, natural hard and softwood. The chrome-vanadium alloy construction increases strength and durability under typical woodworking loads. Supplied as a single piece for straightforward selection and replacement.
Mount the drill bit securely in a compatible drill chuck and check that the bit is perpendicular to the work surface for accurate hole alignment. Start drilling at low speed to allow the brad point to locate the centre, then increase speed as required by the material and drill diameter. Apply steady, even pressure and allow the cutting edges to remove material without forcing; for through holes, support the exit side of thin panels to reduce splintering. After use, clean debris from the flutes and store the bit in a protective case or rack.
Use the bit for plywood and natural hardwoods and softwoods, particularly for dowel work and through holes. Match drilling speed to material density and bit diameter, and keep cutting edges sharp for best results. Avoid side loads and bending to preserve tip geometry and extend tool life.
