Forstner drill bit DeWALT DT4587-QZ 1 pc Right hand rotation
The DeWALT DT4587-QZ Forstner drill bit is designed for precision woodworking, providing clean, flat-bottomed holes and accurate edge work. Intended for use with right-hand rotation drill presses and hand drills equipped to accept Forstner bits, this single-piece bit delivers controlled cutting action for cabinetry, hinge boring, dowel holes, and other joinery tasks where neat, burr-free results are required.
This Forstner drill bit produces smooth hole walls and a true flat bottom, reducing the need for post-drilling sanding or chiselling. The cutting geometry ensures accurate centring and minimal tear-out on both soft and hardwoods. Machined for rigidity, it maintains stable drilling performance and consistent hole dimensions. Being a single piece, the bit offers straightforward handling and easy installation in compatible chucks or drill presses.
Secure the Forstner bit in a suitable chuck or drill press spindle and set the machine to the appropriate speed for the workpiece material. Mark the hole location and, if required, use a centre punch or pilot mark for positioning. Apply steady, even feed pressure while allowing the cutting edges to remove material; avoid excessive force that could cause wandering or burning. After drilling, clear chips from the hole and inspect the surface for required finish; light sanding can be used if necessary.
Use lower speeds for large diameters or dense hardwoods and higher speeds for smaller diameters and softwoods. When drilling near edges, clamp the workpiece to minimise tear-out. For repeated production work, periodically clear chips and inspect the cutting edges to maintain cutting quality.
