Drill bit DeWalt DT5038-QZ, HSS metal, 3 mm diameter, 61 mm length, pack of 2
DeWalt DT5038-QZ is a 3 mm HSS metal drill bit supplied as a pack of two. Each bit has an overall length of 61 mm and is designed for portable drilling in ferrous metals up to 900 N/mm². The bits feature a tapered web to reduce breakage, a gold ferrous oxide coating that helps prevent overheating and extend tool life, and three flat sides on the shank to avoid slipping in standard drill chucks.
The high-speed steel construction provides good wear resistance for small-diameter metal drilling. The tapered web reduces the risk of bit breakage during aggressive feed or side loads. The gold ferrous oxide finish improves heat resistance during continuous drilling, while the three-flat shank design prevents rotation in the chuck for more reliable operation.
These 3 mm HSS bits are intended for small holes and light to moderate drilling loads; they are not designed for large-diameter holes or heavy-production drilling where carbide or coated production bits are preferred. For non-ferrous materials requiring special point geometry or for masonry and wood, use a purpose-made drill bit.
Mark the drilling position and clamp the workpiece securely. Fit the drill bit into a compatible standard drill chuck, ensuring the three-flat shank seats to prevent slipping. Use appropriate cutting speed and light to moderate feed pressure for 3 mm HSS bits when drilling steel; apply cutting lubricant when machining alloyed or thicker material to reduce heat and extend bit life. Withdraw periodically to clear chips on deeper holes.
For best results when drilling steel, use moderate speeds, cutting lubricant on alloyed or thicker sections, and keep steady feed pressure. Replace the bit if wear causes poor chip formation or reduced accuracy.
