USB-to-RS485 Converter EWIMAR USB-485/1/1 – USB serial interface converter
EWIMAR USB-485/1/1 is a USB-to-RS485 serial converter that allows devices using the RS485 communication standard to connect to a computer via a USB port. The adapter converts USB signals to differential RS485 signals and supports data exchange, device configuration, monitoring and basic diagnostics where a USB host is available. It is designed for use in environments that require a simple and compact interface between modern PCs and legacy or industrial serial equipment.
The converter provides a compact and lightweight interface solution with plug-and-play USB connectivity and stable RS485 differential signalling. It reduces the need for serial ports on host computers and eliminates the need for internal serial expansion cards. The device is compatible with typical RS485 networks and supports reliable data transfer over short to moderate distances when paired with appropriate cabling and termination. Its straightforward design makes installation and setup quick for technicians and integrators.
Connect the converter to a computer using the USB plug and attach the RS485 pair to the converter’s RS485 terminal or connector following the device polarity. If necessary, install the appropriate driver for the operating system or allow the system to detect the device automatically. Configure the host application with the matching serial parameters (baud rate, parity, stop bits, and data bits) used by the target RS485 device. Ensure proper bus termination and biasing on the RS485 network according to the network topology and device manufacturer guidance.
Use shielded twisted-pair cable for RS485 wiring and apply termination resistors at the ends of the bus where required. Keep USB cable lengths within the USB specification and avoid placing the converter in environments with strong electrical interference without additional shielding or filtering. For stable operation, match serial settings between host software and RS485 equipment and follow the device manufacturer’s guidance for network topology and grounding.
