Cable insulation Velleman K/STMC2 0.2 mm
Velleman K/STMC2 heat-shrinkable tubing with a wall thickness of 0.2 mm provides insulation and mechanical protection for electrical connections, wire ends and component solder points. The tubing is suitable for identification and encapsulation of wires, corrosion protection of metallic rods or tubes, protection of antennas and for making corrosion-proof, waterproof connections in fibre optic cables. The product is supplied in mixed colours and shrinks at 90°C with a 2:1 shrinking ratio; maximum service temperature is 120°C and dielectric strength shows no breakdown at 2500 VAC for 1 minute.
The Velleman K/STMC2 offers precise 2:1 shrink performance and thin 0.2 mm wall thickness for neat fit on small-diameter wires while maintaining good electrical insulation. Mixed colours permit wire identification. The material provides thermal stability up to 120°C and adequate dielectric strength for common electrical and fibre-optic applications.
Cut a suitable length of tubing and slide it over the area to be insulated or protected. Apply heat evenly (for example with a heat gun) until the tubing has contracted to fit tightly around the wire or component. Ensure the shrink process is completed across the full length and allow the assembly to cool to room temperature before handling. For fibre-optic splices or waterproof joints, position the tubing to fully cover the joint before shrinking.
Use controlled, even heating to avoid overheating; maintain a safe distance with the heat source to prevent damage to nearby components. Select the correct tubing diameter so the final fit after 2:1 shrinkage is snug but not overly tight.
