Bi-directional SATA/IDE converter Gembird SATA-IDE-2
The Gembird SATA-IDE-2 is a bi-directional SATA/IDE converter that enables connection between older IDE devices and modern SATA hosts, and vice versa. Equipped with a JM20330 chipset, it supports Serial ATA 1.0 with data transfer rates up to 150 MBytes/s. Its compact size (52 mm x 48 mm) and light weight (12 g) make it easy to integrate into desktop or service environments where legacy and newer storage interfaces must interoperate.
This adapter provides bidirectional compatibility so IDE drives can be used with SATA controllers and recent SATA devices can be connected to older IDE host controllers. It supports UDMA modes including 33/66/100/133/150 and most ATAPI devices, requires no drivers for installation, and offers straightforward plug-and-play integration for quick setup.
Power down the system before installing the converter. Connect the IDE device to the converter’s IDE connector and the SATA cable to the converter’s SATA port (or vice versa when connecting a SATA drive to an IDE host). Ensure any required power connectors for the drive are attached. After connecting, power on the system; the adapter is recognized without additional drivers and the drive should become available to the host controller.
Use the converter in environments where mechanical stability and correct cabling are ensured. For large-scale data transfers or mission-critical systems, verify drive compatibility and perform backups before migration. Not all ATAPI devices are guaranteed to work; test individual combinations if possible.
