Hama UV Filter 390 O-Haze 40.5 mm Coated Ultraviolet Camera Filter Black

The Hama UV Filter 390 O-Haze 40.5 mm Coated Ultraviolet Camera Filter Black is an essential optical accessory designed to improve outdoor photography results and protect valuable camera equipment. By absorbing ultraviolet rays up to 390 nm, this filter effectively minimizes atmospheric haze and eliminates unwanted bluish casts, resulting in clearer and sharper images for both color and black-and-white photography. Crafted for everyday use, the filter combines reliable optical glass with a durable black metal rim to maintain high image clarity without altering color neutrality.

Advantages

This coated ultraviolet filter offers dual functionality by enhancing visual performance and providing physical protection for the front lens element. The normal coating consists of a single protective layer on each side, which helps reduce reflections while guarding against daily hazards such as dust, moisture, scratches, and fingerprints. Because the filter is entirely colour-neutral, it does not require exposure compensation and can be left permanently attached to the lens as a constant protective shield during various shooting conditions.

Suitable for

• Outdoor photography in bright daylight
• Landscape and nature photography
• Mountain and coastal environments with high UV radiation
• Everyday permanent lens protection

When it may not be suitable

This filter is not designed for specialized creative effects such as polarization or light reduction, meaning it will not control surface reflections or allow longer shutter speeds in bright light. Additionally, it is physically limited to lenses with a 40.5 mm filter thread and cannot be used without step-up rings on lenses of different diameters.

Key specifications

• Ultraviolet (UV) camera filter
• 40.5 mm filter diameter
• ProClass optical glass standard
• Normal coating with one layer on each side
• Blocks UV rays up to 390 nm
• Black rim finish

How to use

To install the filter, carefully align the threaded edge with the front of your 40.5 mm camera lens and turn it clockwise until securely fastened. Do not overtighten, as this may make removal difficult. The filter can remain on the lens permanently during shooting and transport to provide continuous protection. For cleaning, use a specialized microfibre cloth and optical lens cleaning solution to remove smudges or dust without damaging the coated surface.

What to consider before purchase

• Verify that your camera lens has a 40.5 mm filter thread diameter before buying.
• Determine if you primarily shoot outdoors where UV absorption and haze reduction are beneficial.
• Confirm that you prefer a standard single-layer coated filter for basic protection and clarity.

For optimal results, keep the filter surface clean from dust and fingerprints using proper optical maintenance tools, and remove the filter in low-light situations if unwanted internal reflections occur from strong light sources.
