Filter Hama Vario 7.7 cm
The Hama Vario 7.7 cm neutral-density filter reduces incoming light to enable creative control over exposure and depth of field. This variable ND2–400 filter fits lenses with a 7.7 cm (77 mm) thread and is intended to help photographers manage bright conditions, achieve longer exposures for motion effects, or use wider apertures outdoors to soften backgrounds. The filter has a rotating front element that adjusts attenuation smoothly between approximately 1 and 8 stops while maintaining durable construction for regular use.
The variable ND2–400 design provides a wide range of light reduction in a single filter, eliminating the need to carry multiple fixed-density filters. The rotating front lens enables continuous adjustment from subtle to strong attenuation, allowing control over exposure time and aperture. By reducing light without changing color balance, it helps preserve color saturation and reduce glare in bright shooting conditions.
Screw the filter onto the front thread of a compatible lens (77 mm). Rotate the front element to adjust the amount of light reduction until the desired exposure or background blur is achieved. For long-exposure effects (for example smoothing water), increase attenuation and use a tripod to prevent camera shake. For shallow depth-of-field outdoors, set a wide aperture and adjust the filter to avoid overexposure.
When using the filter, monitor image framing and exposure on the camera display and, for long exposures, use a tripod and a remote shutter or timer to prevent movement. Avoid stacking other filters with the variable ND to minimize vignetting and uneven darkening at extreme settings.
