ND Filter Hoya NDx4 49mm
The Hoya NDx4 49mm neutral density filter reduces incoming light by approximately two stops, enabling longer exposures and greater control over depth of field. Made from optical-quality glass with a slim profile, the filter is designed to minimize color cast and reduce the risk of vignetting on wide-angle lenses, making it suitable for landscape and outdoor photography as well as video work in bright conditions.
The NDx4 filter lowers exposure uniformly without affecting color balance, allowing use of slower shutter speeds or wider apertures in bright light. Its optical glass construction ensures low distortion and minimal color shift, while the slim mount reduces the chance of vignetting when used on wide-angle lenses. The 49mm thread size fits lenses that accept this common filter diameter.
Screw the NDx4 filter onto the front thread of a compatible 49mm lens and ensure it is securely seated. Use a tripod for long-exposure shots to avoid camera shake when using slower shutter speeds. For landscape scenes, combine the filter with manual exposure settings: choose a narrower aperture or longer shutter speed as required to achieve motion blur or desired depth of field. For video, attach the filter when shooting bright scenes to prevent overexposure while maintaining the camera's fixed shutter speed.
Check lens compatibility and clearance for wide-angle use to avoid vignetting. When stacking multiple filters, be aware of increased risk of vignetting and potential image degradation. Clean the optical surfaces with a microfiber cloth and appropriate lens cleaner to maintain image quality.
