RAID controller HPE SmartArray E208i-a SR Gen10
The HPE Smart Array E208i-a SR Gen10 is a modular, type-a RAID controller designed for HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers that provides internal-attached drive connectivity without using a PCIe expansion slot. It supports 12 Gb/s SAS and PCIe 3.0, offers eight internal SAS lanes for connection to SAS or SATA drives, and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 10. The controller also supports Mixed Mode operation (RAID and HBA concurrently) and optional secure encryption for data-at-rest.
This controller delivers enterprise-class reliability and 12 Gb/s SAS connectivity in a cost-effective form factor that occupies a dedicated storage slot rather than a PCIe expansion slot. Mixed Mode capability increases flexibility by allowing RAID and HBA operation at the same time, reducing the need for additional hardware. Optional HPE Smart Array SR Secure Encryption protects data-at-rest on attached drives, while SmartSSD Wear Gauge helps monitor drive health to preserve data integrity.
Install the E208i-a SR Gen10 into the server's dedicated storage slot according to the HPE ProLiant installation guide. Connect internal SAS or SATA drives to the controller's internal lanes and configure storage using the UEFI storage configuration tool or HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA). For scripted or remote deployments, configure arrays via iLO using the RESTful interface. If encryption is required, enable the HPE Smart Array SR Secure Encryption license and follow the vendor instructions to activate data-at-rest protection.
Use the controller with HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers and 12 Gb/s drives to achieve full performance. Regularly monitor drive health with SmartSSD Wear Gauge and perform firmware and software updates through HPE tools to maintain reliability and compatibility.
