Polymaker PolyLite LW-PLA is a specialized 3D printing filament engineered to provide lightweight results without the complexities of active foaming materials. As a pre-foamed polylactic acid filament, it allows users to achieve significant weight reduction in printed parts while maintaining the ease of use associated with standard PLA. This grey filament is designed for consistent performance, offering excellent rigidity and structural integrity for various additive manufacturing applications.
The primary advantage of this material is its passive foaming technology, which eliminates the need for complex temperature-dependent settings required by active foaming filaments. Because the material is pre-foamed, it delivers consistent lightweight properties across a wide temperature range, starting as low as 190 degrees Celsius. This lower printing temperature not only improves surface finish by reducing stringing and blobs but also ensures high-quality results with minimal adjustments to standard printing profiles. Its reliability and ease of processing make it a highly efficient choice for users seeking to reduce the weight of their models without sacrificing print quality.
This filament may not be suitable for applications requiring high heat resistance or extreme mechanical durability under heavy load, as PLA naturally softens at elevated temperatures. It is also not recommended for parts intended for long-term outdoor exposure or environments with high humidity and UV radiation, which can degrade the material over time.
To achieve optimal results, load the filament into your 3D printer and set your nozzle temperature between 190°C and 210°C. The material performs well with standard PLA settings, though you may consider a slight increase in retraction distance to ensure clean prints. For direct drive systems, a retraction distance of 3 mm is recommended, while indirect drive systems may require up to 6 mm. Ensure your build plate is heated to between 30°C and 50°C for proper adhesion. If the filament has been exposed to humidity, it is recommended to dry it at 55°C for 6 hours before use.
For the best surface quality and minimal stringing, print at the lower end of the recommended temperature range. Always store the filament in a dry, cool place to prevent moisture absorption, which can affect print quality.
