Compact film camera Ilford Sprite 35-II 35 mm ISO 200-800
Compact film camera Ilford Sprite 35-II 35 mm ISO 200-800
The Ilford Sprite 35-II is a compact 35 mm film camera designed for users who want a simple, reusable alternative to disposables. It continues the straightforward design of the 1960s Sprite: fixed-focus wide-angle optics, a fixed 1/120 s shutter speed and an integrated flash. Lightweight and pocketable, the Sprite 35-II accepts standard 35 mm colour negative or black-and-white film with ISO ratings from 200 to 800 and includes a manual film advance and rewind mechanism.
The camera’s fixed 31 mm single-element f/9 lens and 1/120 s shutter provide easy, reliable daylight exposures without the need to set aperture or shutter speed. A built-in flash with approximately 15 s recycle time enables occasional low-light shooting. As a reusable compact film camera, it reduces waste compared with single-use cameras while remaining simple enough for beginners and experimentation with different film stocks.
Load a 35 mm roll of film (ISO 200–800 recommended) into the camera following the film chamber markings, advance the film with the manual winding lever until it is correctly engaged, then close the back. Compose your shot and press the shutter button; advance the film after each exposure. Use the built-in flash for low-light scenes and allow approximately 15 seconds for the flash to recycle between firings. When the roll is finished, rewind the film fully before opening the back to remove the cartridge.
For best results, use the Sprite 35-II outdoors or in well-lit conditions with ISO 200–400 film; choose ISO 800 when shooting in lower light and rely on the built-in flash for nighttime or interior shots. Keep subjects at least 1 metre from the lens to ensure acceptable focus with the fixed-focus optics.
