Black-and-white photographic film Ilford PAN F PLUS by Ilford (medium-speed B&W film)
Ilford PAN F PLUS is a medium-speed panchromatic black-and-white photographic film designed for traditional analog photography. Rated at ISO 50, this film delivers exceptionally fine grain, high resolution and sharpness, and is available in both 35mm and 120 roll film formats. PAN F PLUS is intended for controlled exposure work and darkroom processes where tonal separation and detail are priorities. It performs well for enlargements and can be developed to different contrast levels for technical or copying applications.
PAN F PLUS provides exceptionally fine grain and outstanding resolution that preserve detail in highlights and shadows. Its ISO 50 sensitivity enables precise exposure control and smooth tonal gradation. The film’s performance in careful exposure and standard darkroom development yields sharp negatives suitable for large mural-size enlargements and high-quality scans. It can also be processed to higher contrast when required for scientific, technical or copying uses.
Load the film into a compatible 35mm camera or 120 format camera in subdued light or a changing bag. Meter and expose for ISO 50 to take full advantage of fine grain and tonal range; employ careful exposure to optimize highlight and shadow detail. After exposure, develop using standard black-and-white chemistry and procedures compatible with panchromatic negative films. For larger enlargements or scanning, ensure thorough drying and gentle handling of negatives to avoid scratches and dust. Follow recommended agitation and development times from your chosen developer to achieve intended contrast and grain characteristics.
For the finest results, expose PAN F PLUS at its native sensitivity (ISO 50) and use deliberate metering and controlled lighting. When a higher contrast is required for technical reproduction, adjust development times according to the developer manufacturer’s data. When scanning, use gentle dust removal and high-resolution scanning settings to capture the film’s detail; for enlargement printing, ensure careful focus and grain-avoidance practices in the enlarger.
