iWARP/RDMA provides low-latency fabric services over Ethernet by enabling Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA). Key elements that reduce latency include Kernel Bypass, Direct Data Placement, and Transport Acceleration. Intel® Data Direct I/O (DDIO) improves I/O efficiency by allowing server adapters and controllers to interact directly with processor cache rather than system memory, which reduces latency, increases I/O bandwidth, and lowers power consumption. The adapter supports PCI-SIG SR-IOV for native sharing of a single I/O resource among multiple virtual machines. Flexible Port Partitioning (FPP) uses SR-IOV to split a physical Ethernet device into multiple virtual devices and helps provide Quality of Service by assigning processes to Virtual Functions with a fair share of bandwidth. Virtual Machine Device Queues (VMDq) offload some virtual machine monitor switching to networking hardware, reducing VMM I/O overhead and improving throughput and system performance.
