Twist drill bit Irwin 10501945 — 5 mm diameter, for rotary hammer, 1 pc
Irwin 10501945 is a single 5 mm twist drill bit designed for use with rotary hammers. Engineered for drilling in concrete and masonry, this accessory combines a patented extra-short carbide tip with a new single-flute geometry to deliver faster, more efficient drilling. Supplied as one piece with an SDS-compatible shank, the 5 mm diameter bit is intended for precision hole making and general-purpose work where twist bits are appropriate for use in rotary-hammer drills.
The patented extra-short carbide tip transfers 80% of the workload to the head for improved durability and higher cutting speed while its concave, aggressive cutting angles increase penetration. The design clears dust directly into the flute to reduce clogging and features self-centering properties for easier control and straighter holes. A brazing process carried out at 1000°C with a bronze paste ensures a strong bond between tip and body for extended bit life. The new single-flute profile offers approximately 28% greater waste-removal capacity, and combined with the shorter tip enables up to 20% faster drilling compared with conventional designs.
Install the Irwin 5 mm twist drill bit into the SDS-compatible chuck of a rotary hammer according to the tool manufacturer's instructions. Select rotary hammer mode suitable for drilling in concrete or masonry and position the bit at the marked drilling point. Apply steady, moderate pressure while allowing the tool and bit geometry to do the cutting; avoid excessive axial force that can reduce tip life. Withdraw the bit periodically to clear accumulated dust if drilling deeper holes, and replace the bit when wear affects drilling performance.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment including eye protection, hearing protection and dust mask when drilling. For best results in reinforced concrete, use progressive drilling techniques and check for rebar before continuing. Store the bit in a dry place to prevent corrosion and inspect the brazed tip before use; replace the bit if the carbide tip is chipped or detached.
