Drill bit 2 mm Irwin 10502509, twist drill bits, set of 2
Irwin Drill bit 2 mm 10502509 is a set of two 2 mm twist drill bits designed for precision small-hole drilling in a range of general-purpose materials. These HSS cobalt bits incorporate 5% cobalt for improved heat and abrasion resistance and are manufactured to DIN 338 standards. With a 135° split point and heavy-duty web construction, the bits are suited for use with hand drills and drill presses where reliable centring and long life are required.
The HSS cobalt composition provides enhanced performance when drilling tougher and heat-prone metals compared with standard high-speed steels. The 135° split point reduces walking at the start of drilling, enabling more accurate hole placement without the need for pilot holes in many applications. Heavy-duty web construction increases bit strength and reduces breakage risk during demanding tasks. The cylindrical shank fits a wide range of chucks and the compact 49 mm length is suited for confined workspaces.
Secure the 2 mm Irwin twist drill bit in the chuck of a hand drill or drill press ensuring the cylindrical shank is firmly clamped. Mark the drilling location and, if necessary, use a centre punch for precise positioning. Use appropriate cutting speed and feed for the material being drilled; reduce speed for stainless and hardened steels to control heat build-up. Apply steady pressure and allow the bit to clear chips periodically. For through-holes, support the workpiece to prevent breakout on the far side.
Use cutting fluid when drilling metals to extend bit life and reduce heat; select lower speeds for stainless and hardened steels. Store the bits in a protective case to avoid damage and inspect for wear before precision tasks.
