Drill bit Irwin 10502542, twist drill bit, 3 mm diameter, 1 pc
Irwin 10502542 is a single 3 mm twist drill bit made for precision metalworking and general-purpose drilling. Constructed from high-speed steel with 5% cobalt content, this HSS cobalt drill bit is designed to withstand higher heat and abrasion compared with standard high-speed steels. The bit is suitable for use in handheld and stationary drills and is supplied as one piece for straightforward replacement and on-the-job use.
The 5% cobalt alloy increases heat and wear resistance for longer life when drilling hard or abrasive metals. A heavy-duty web construction provides enhanced strength and durability under load, while the 135° split point geometry starts cutting immediately to reduce walking and improve accuracy when positioning holes. Manufactured to DIN 338 standards, the bit delivers consistent geometry and performance for repeatable results.
Select a drill or drill press compatible with a 3 mm shank and secure the workpiece to prevent movement. Mark the drilling position and, if necessary, use a center punch to locate the hole. Fit the Irwin 3 mm HSS cobalt bit into the chuck and tighten securely. Use appropriate cutting speed and feed for the metal being drilled; apply cutting fluid when drilling hardened or abrasive alloys to reduce heat and extend bit life. Start drilling at low speed to ensure the split point locates the hole, then increase speed as appropriate while maintaining steady pressure.
To maximize life and maintain hole quality, use appropriate coolant or cutting oil with harder materials, avoid excessive feed pressure that can overload the small-diameter bit, and replace the bit at the first signs of wear or chipping. Follow standard safety procedures including eye protection and secure clamping of the workpiece.
