Drill bit Irwin 10502544 twist drill bit Ø 3.2 mm, 1 pc
Irwin 10502544 is a single HSS cobalt twist drill bit with a 3.2 mm diameter, supplied as one practical replacement or spare bit. The bit is designed for use in standard drills and is suitable for drilling a range of materials including alloyed steel, metal, stainless steel, wood and plastic when matched with appropriate drill speed and feed. Its twist geometry supports chip evacuation and helps maintain a straight drilling line, while the 135° split point reduces bit walking and improves centring at the start of the hole.
The drill bit contains 5% cobalt to increase heat and abrasion resistance for demanding metalworking tasks. A heavy-duty web construction enhances strength and durability under load, and the DIN 338 manufacturing standard ensures dimensional accuracy and consistent performance. The 135° split point shortens drilling start time and lowers the likelihood of wandering, making it suitable for precision and general-purpose use.
Secure the 3.2 mm twist drill bit in the drill chuck, ensuring it is tightly clamped and running true. Select an appropriate drill speed and feed rate for the material: lower speeds for hardened or stainless steels, higher speeds for softer metals and non-metals. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling metal to reduce heat and extend bit life. Apply steady pressure and allow the drill to do the cutting; withdraw occasionally to clear chips if drilling deep holes.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment, clamp the workpiece securely, and match drill speed and lubrication to the material. For best results on hardened or stainless steels, use moderate speed, steady pressure and cutting fluid. Replace the bit if wear, chipping or loss of sharpness is observed to avoid excessive heat and poor hole quality.
