Drill bit Irwin Twist 7 mm, model 10502559, 1 pc
Irwin Twist 7 mm drill bit is a single-piece, straight-shank HSS cobalt twist bit designed for general-purpose and heavy-duty drilling. Made with 5% cobalt and a robust web construction, the bit provides increased heat and abrasion resistance for demanding metalworking tasks. The 135° split point reduces walking at startup and improves centring, while the twist flute geometry ensures efficient chip evacuation and stable axial performance across metal, wood and plastic when used with appropriate speeds and feeds.
This 7 mm HSS cobalt drill bit offers improved performance in high-temperature and abrasive conditions due to its 5% cobalt composition. The heavy-duty web increases strength and durability for extended tool life under load. A 135° split point provides quick penetration and reduced bit wandering, enabling more accurate hole placement. The straight-shank twist design promotes reliable chip removal and stable drilling action in a range of materials when matched with suitable drilling parameters.
Secure the drill bit in the chuck of a handheld or bench drill ensuring the shank is properly seated and tightened. Select an appropriate speed and feed for the material being drilled: lower speeds for hard or heat-treated metals and higher speeds for wood or plastics. Apply steady axial pressure, allowing the bit to cut without excessive force. Periodically withdraw the bit to clear chips and reduce heat buildup. For metal applications, consider using a suitable cutting fluid to improve tool life and surface finish.
Use personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and gloves. Avoid overheating by using correct speeds and by applying cutting lubricant when drilling metals. Store the bit in a dry place and protect the cutting edges from contact with harder surfaces to preserve performance.
