Drill Bit Irwin spiral hex shank for wood 14 mm model 10502754
Drill Bit Irwin spiral hex shank for wood 14 mm model 10502754
Irwin spiral drill bit with 14 mm diameter and hex shank designed for drilling wood. The bit features a spiral flute for efficient chip removal and a hexagonal shank that ensures a secure grip in standard chucks and quick-change holders. The geometry is optimised for straight, clean holes in soft and hard wood and for common woodworking tasks such as installing fittings and general carpentry work.
The spiral flute provides continuous chip evacuation to reduce clogging and improve drilling speed. The hex shank minimises slippage in the chuck or quick-change adaptor, enabling higher torque transfer and more stable drilling. The 14 mm diameter offers a balance between hole size for dowels, fittings or fasteners and ease of control when used with hand-held drills or drill presses. The bit is intended for woodworking applications and is shaped to produce cleaner hole walls and reduced tear-out.
Select an appropriate drilling speed for the wood species and the drill size; generally use moderate speeds for hardwood and higher speeds for softwood. Secure the workpiece and mark the drilling position. Insert the hex shank firmly into the chuck or quick-change holder and tighten. Start drilling with light pressure to engage the tip, then apply steady, even pressure while allowing the spiral flute to evacuate chips. Withdraw the bit periodically when making deep holes to clear chips and prevent overheating. After drilling, back the bit out while the drill is still turning to reduce splintering at the hole exit when possible.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (eye and hearing protection). For best hole quality, clamp the workpiece and consider backing short-grain areas to minimise tear-out. Match drilling speed and feed to the wood density and check the bit for sharpness regularly; replace or re-sharpen when wear affects hole quality.
