Drill bit Irwin lip drill bit 5 mm, model 10502794, 1 pc
Irwin lip drill bit 5 mm (model 10502794) is a single-piece cutting tool designed for creating clean, accurate holes in wood. The bit features a centre point for accurate starts, a spurred cutting head to minimise splintering, wide flutes for efficient chip removal and a fully hardened body for improved wear resistance. With a 5 mm cutting diameter and an overall length of 86 mm, this lip drill bit is intended for use with standard drills and is supplied as one unit.
The centre point enables precise positioning and easy startup, reducing the need for pilot marking. The spurred cutting head produces smooth hole edges and reduces tear-out on both face and back surfaces. Wide flutes clear chips quickly to maintain cutting efficiency and prevent clogging during continuous drilling. The fully hardened body increases durability and extends service life under normal woodworking conditions. A cylindrical shank ensures secure chuck grip on many drill models.
Fit the Irwin 5 mm lip drill bit into a compatible drill chuck and tighten securely. Mark the drilling position and, if needed, start at low speed to engage the centre point for accurate positioning. Apply steady, even pressure while drilling and allow the bit to clear chips periodically if drilling deep holes. For through-holes, support the workpiece to limit splintering on the exit face. After use, retract the bit while the drill is still turning briefly to help clear remaining chips, then stop and remove the bit for cleaning and storage.
Use appropriate drill speeds for the wood type: lower speeds for hardwoods and moderate to higher speeds for softwoods. Wear eye protection and follow general workshop safety practices. Replace the bit when cutting performance degrades or if the tip becomes chipped or excessively worn.
