Spade drill bit Irwin 10502803 for wood, 6 mm diameter, hex shank
IRWIN 10502803 spade drill bit is a 6 mm wood drilling bit designed for use with handheld drills and quick‑change chucks. It features a reinforced shank and a double cutting spur to reduce splintering at the hole edge while providing faster chip evacuation through a dedicated groove. The bit is intended for general wood‑working tasks requiring straight, small‑diameter holes.
The double cutting spurs scribe the outside of the hole to minimise breakout, while a thicker cutting edge improves wear resistance for longer drilling life. A blue chip groove and point design speed up chip removal, and the larger shank increases durability. The 1/4" quick‑change shank allows fast bit swaps in compatible chucks.
This spade bit is optimised for wood and wood‑based materials; it is not intended for use in masonry, metal or ceramic. For precision counterboring, extremely clean countersink finishes, or very small‑tolerance holes a different drill type may be preferable.
Secure the bit in a compatible 1/4" quick‑change chuck or standard drill chuck. Mark the drilling point, hold the workpiece firmly or clamp it, and start drilling at low speed to engage the spurs, then increase speed as needed. Apply steady pressure without forcing the bit; withdraw occasionally for chip clearance when drilling deep holes. Use appropriate safety gear such as eye protection and gloves.
For best results when drilling wood, start at low speed to allow the double spurs to scribe the edge, maintain steady feed pressure, and clear chips frequently to prevent overheating and clogging.
