Irwin spade drill bit 10 mm (model 10502805) for wood drilling
Irwin spade drill bit 10 mm is a wood spade bit designed for drilling clean, fast holes in timber and other soft materials. The bit is intended for use in handheld and bench drills with standard chucks and features a 1/4" quick-change shank for fast bit swaps. Its geometry focuses on rapid chip removal and reduced breakout at the hole edge, making it suitable for through-holes for wiring, plumbing, dowels and general carpentry work.
Double cutting spurs scribe the wood outside the hole to reduce breakout and produce a cleaner edge. A thicker cutting edge increases service life under load, while the BLUE-GROOVE point and cutting edge promote faster chip evacuation to maintain drilling speed. The shank is made larger for added durability and the 1/4" quick-change feature allows rapid installation in compatible chucks and bit holders.
Secure the spade bit in the drill chuck or quick-change holder, ensuring it is seated firmly. Mark the drilling position on the workpiece and begin at low speed to engage the BLUE-GROOVE point and allow the spurs to scribe the edge. Increase speed as required for the material, applying steady axial pressure while allowing chips to evacuate. Withdraw the bit periodically for deep holes to clear chips and avoid overheating.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection and gloves. For best results in hardwood or laminated materials, pilot first with a smaller bit if precise edge control is required. Maintain moderate speed and steady feed; avoid excessive side loads to preserve the cutting edge and prolong bit life.
