Spade Drill Bit Irwin 10502809 — 16 mm Diameter, Wood Drilling
The Irwin spade drill bit 16 mm diameter is designed for fast, efficient drilling in wood and similar soft materials. This flat-blade spade bit features cutting spurs and a reinforced cutting edge to produce clean through-holes with reduced breakout. The bit is compatible with handheld and stationary drills and includes a quick-change shank for rapid tool swaps during repetitive carpentry, wiring, or plumbing work.
Double cutting spurs scribe the outside of the hole to reduce breakout and improve hole quality. A thicker cutting edge extends service life under frequent use. The BLUE-GROOVE point and cutting edge promote faster chip removal for quicker, cleaner drilling. The enlarged shank increases durability during torque-heavy applications, and the quick-change shank enables fast bit changes without additional adapters.
Secure the spade bit in the drill chuck or quick-change holder, ensuring firm engagement to prevent slippage. Position the tip at the desired drilling location and start at low speed to establish the cut, then increase speed as needed while applying steady, even pressure. Withdraw the bit periodically on deep holes to clear chips and prevent clogging. After use, clean off wood chips and store the bit in a protected holder to maintain the cutting edge.
Use appropriate drill speeds for the wood species being drilled, lower speeds for hardwoods and higher for softwoods. Support thin workpieces to avoid splintering, and consider backing material when drilling through finished surfaces to preserve hole quality. Wear eye protection and follow standard drill safety procedures.
