Spade drill bit Irwin 10502817 — 26 mm diameter, for wood
Spade drill bit Irwin 10502817 — 26 mm diameter, for wood is a flat paddle-style bit designed for fast, straight drilling in wood and similar soft materials. The 26 mm cutting diameter creates larger holes for cable passes, pipe entries and rough carpentry tasks. The bit features a quick-change 1/4" hex shank compatible with standard drill chucks and quick-change adapters, allowing rapid bit swaps during installation and site work.
The spade bit includes double cutting spurs that scribe the outside of the hole to reduce breakout and produce cleaner hole edges. A thicker cutting edge improves wear resistance and extends service life under repeated use. The BLUE-GROOVE point and cutting edge accelerate chip removal for faster drilling and reduced clogging. The shank is enlarged by 10% for added durability and better transfer of torque during heavy-duty driving.
Secure the 1/4" hex shank in the drill chuck or quick-change adapter and set the drill to a suitable speed for wood drilling. Position the spade point on the marked spot and apply steady, even pressure while keeping the drill perpendicular to the workpiece. Allow the BLUE-GROOVE cutting geometry to remove chips; retract the bit periodically in deep holes to clear debris and avoid overheating. For clean edge results when drilling laminated or veneered panels, use backing support beneath the exit point.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and hearing protection. Choose a moderate drill speed for 26 mm holes in hardwoods to reduce bit wear. For repeated professional use, inspect the cutting edge and spurs regularly and replace the bit when the edges become dull to maintain hole quality and drilling efficiency.
