Hole saw (bi-metal) Irwin 30 mm model 10504172
Irwin 30 mm bi-metal hole saw model 10504172 is designed to cut clean circular openings in metal and a variety of other materials. Constructed from bi-metal, the cutting edge combines high-speed steel teeth welded to a flexible alloy body to provide enhanced wear resistance and improved heat tolerance during continuous drilling. The tool is compatible with standard drill chucks and drill drivers for installation, plumbing, electrical and general metalworking tasks that require a 30 mm diameter hole.
The bi-metal construction offers a balance of toughness and sharpness for reliable cutting performance and longer service life compared with standard carbon-steel saws. The saw’s tooth geometry and welded joint reduce the risk of premature failure under heat and load, while the 30 mm diameter provides a precise, repeatable hole size for fittings and conduits. The design supports attachment to common mandrels and arbors used with hand-held drills.
Secure the hole saw to a compatible mandrel or arbor and tighten firmly in the drill chuck. Mark the center of the required hole and if possible use a pilot bit to prevent walking. Start drilling at low speed to establish the cut, then apply steady pressure and increase speed as appropriate for the material. Withdraw the saw periodically to clear chips and reduce heat buildup. After cutting, remove burrs from the edge of the hole with a file or deburring tool as needed.
Use cutting lubricants or coolant when drilling steel to extend blade life and reduce heat. Match drill speed and feed rate to the material thickness; avoid excessive force to prevent motor stall or saw damage. Inspect the saw before use for signs of wear or damage and replace if teeth are chipped or welded joints compromised.
