Hole saw Irwin 79 mm bimetal 10504197
Irwin 79 mm bimetal hole saw is designed to cut clean circular openings in metal, wood and plastic. Constructed from bi-metal construction combining high-speed steel cutting edge with flexible backing, this 79 mm hole saw offers improved heat resistance and longer service life compared with standard carbon-steel cutters. It is intended for use with hand drills and drill presses when installing pipes, conduits, locks or ventilation fittings in construction and installation tasks.
The bimetal construction provides a balance of hardness and toughness to resist wear while reducing the risk of tooth breakage during intermittent or heavy cutting. The 79 mm diameter produces consistent, accurately sized holes suitable for many common installation fittings. Teeth geometry and material are optimized for cutting a range of materials including thin- to medium-gauge metals, wood and plastics, reducing the need to change tools between operations. The design supports high feed rates and good heat dissipation when used with appropriate drilling speeds and lubricants.
Mount the hole saw on a compatible arbor and secure it in the drill chuck according to the arbor manufacturer's instructions. Mark the centre point of the desired hole, then start drilling at low speed to create a pilot indentation and maintain drill alignment. Increase speed moderately and apply steady pressure; when cutting metal, use cutting lubricant to reduce heat and extend tool life. Clear chips periodically to avoid clogging and overheating. After cutting, deburr the hole edges as required.
Use appropriate safety equipment such as eye protection and gloves. Match drill speed and feed to the work material: slower speeds and cutting fluid for metals, higher speeds for wood and plastics. Ensure stable clamping of the workpiece and avoid side loads on the arbor to prolong tool life.
