Filter Kenko MC/UV 40.5mm — UV and multi-coated protective lens filter
Filter Kenko MC/UV 40.5mm — UV and multi-coated protective lens filter
Kenko MC/UV 40.5mm is a multi-coated ultraviolet (UV) filter designed to reduce atmospheric haze and protect the front element of lenses with a 40.5mm filter thread. The MC (multi-coating) treatment reduces surface reflections and stray light while preserving color neutrality and image sharpness, making this filter suitable for everyday use on compact interchangeable‑lens cameras and small prime or zoom lenses.
The multi-coated glass minimizes reflections and ghosting, improving contrast in bright conditions and backlit scenes. As a UV filter it reduces subtle bluish cast caused by ultraviolet light, particularly at long focal lengths or in high-altitude environments. The slim metal ring provides secure mounting with minimal vignetting on wide-angle lenses and serves as a durable protective barrier against dust, fingerprints and minor impacts to the front element.
Screw the Kenko MC/UV 40.5mm filter into the lens filter thread until the ring is lightly seated; avoid overtightening. Use the filter on lenses with a 40.5 mm thread for everyday shooting to maintain consistent image quality and to provide continuous front-element protection. Clean the filter surface with a microfiber cloth and appropriate lens cleaning solution when necessary to remove smudges or dust. Remove the filter only when using specialized filters (polarizers, ND) or when filter stacking would interfere with image quality.
Use the MC/UV filter as a protective permanent accessory on lenses where minimal optical impact is required. In conditions with strong backlight or when capturing high-contrast scenes, the multi-coating helps reduce flare; for polarization effects or exposure control, use a polarizer or neutral density filter in place of or in addition to this UV filter, taking care with filter stacking to avoid vignetting.
