Camera filter Kenko 62mm Air UV — 62 mm ultraviolet (UV) filter, black
Kenko 62mm Air UV is a 62 mm ultraviolet (UV) camera filter in a black finish designed to reduce UV haze and provide basic protection for the front element of compatible lenses. This single-piece filter combines a thin optical glass element with a metal or composite filter ring sized to fit lenses with a 62 mm front thread, offering a straightforward solution for landscape, travel and outdoor photography where reduced atmospheric blue cast and front-element protection are required.
The filter reduces ultraviolet light that can cause bluish cast and loss of clarity in distant scenes, improving apparent sharpness and color neutrality in daylight shooting conditions. It serves as a sacrificial protective layer for the lens surface, helping to prevent scratches, dust and moisture from contacting the front element while remaining permanently attached during use. The slim profile and lightweight construction minimize vignetting on wide-angle lenses while preserving autofocus and exposure metering performance.
Thread the filter onto the lens front by aligning the 62 mm filter thread with the lens filter thread and turning clockwise until finger-tight; avoid overtightening. Use the filter during daylight shooting to reduce ultraviolet haze and leave it on the lens as a protective layer when transporting or shooting in environments where the front element might be exposed to dust, sand or light impact. Clean the filter surface with a soft blower, microfiber cloth and suitable lens cleaning solution when needed, following standard lens-care procedures.
For best results with wide-angle lenses, confirm the filter does not introduce vignetting at the widest focal lengths and remove or use a slimmer mount if necessary. When shooting with specialized filters (polarizers, neutral density), stack filters cautiously to avoid cross-reflections and excessive vignetting; keep the Kenko Air UV as the outermost protective element when combined with thicker filters.
