Tongue-and-groove pliers Knipex 88 05 180
Tongue-and-groove pliers Knipex 88 05 180 with a tool length of 180 mm and compact head provide increased gripping capacity and comfortable handling. The pliers accommodate a maximum pipe diameter of 42 mm and a nut size up to 36 mm. Constructed from chrome vanadium electric steel with oil hardening and a box-joint design, the tool is robust, dirt-insensitive and suitable for outdoor work.
The 9-notch adjustment offers about 30% more gripping capacity compared with conventional water pump pliers of the same length. A slim head and joint area ensure good access to the workpiece, while self-locking action on pipes and nuts prevents slipping and reduces the required hand force. Hardened gripping surfaces (approx. 61 HRC) provide high wear resistance and reliable grip. The box-joint design with double guide increases stability and an integrated guard protects the operator’s fingers.
Select the appropriate adjustment notch for the workpiece and position the pliers so the lower jaw grips the workpiece while the upper jaw rests on the adjustment groove. Apply steady hand force until the pliers self-lock on the pipe or nut; this reduces the need for continuous gripping pressure. For best access in confined spaces, use the slim head and joint area and adjust the jaw width progressively until a secure hold is achieved. After use, clean off dirt and lightly oil the joint to maintain smooth operation.
Use the pliers within the specified maximum pipe and nut sizes to avoid damage. Do not use the tool for cutting or striking; avoid working on live electrical circuits. Regularly inspect the hardened teeth and the box-joint for wear and contamination, and store the pliers dry to prevent corrosion.
