Adapter USB Lindy serial port converter with COM retention (MPN L43413)
The Lindy USB serial port converter with COM retention is a compact adapter that converts a USB connection into a standard RS-232 serial (COM) interface. It is intended to provide reliable serial connectivity for computers and laptops that no longer include native RS-232 ports, enabling connection of legacy equipment, industrial instruments, POS terminals and field devices. The adapter maintains a persistent COM port assignment so software that depends on a fixed port number can continue to operate without reconfiguration each time the device is reconnected.
This USB-to-serial adapter supports COM retention to ensure stable, repeatable port assignment across reboots and reconnections. It offers plug-and-play USB connectivity with driver support on common operating systems, low-latency serial communication suitable for most control and data-acquisition tasks, and a compact design that is easy to integrate into desktop or mobile setups. The device provides a straightforward way to connect RS-232 peripherals to modern systems while minimising setup overhead.
Install the appropriate driver for your operating system if required; many modern systems will recognise the adapter automatically. Connect the adapter to a free USB port on the host computer and attach the serial device to the adapter's serial connector. After installation the adapter appears as a COM port in the operating system; configure your application to use that COM port and set baud rate, parity, data bits and stop bits to match the connected device. When COM retention is enabled, the adapter will retain the same COM number across reconnections, minimising the need to reconfigure software.
For reliable operation, use a short shielded serial cable and ensure communication parameters match exactly between the host application and the connected device. Avoid disconnecting during active data transfer, and keep drivers up to date for compatibility with operating system updates. In industrial environments, place the adapter away from strong electrical interference sources and consider using surge protection on power and serial lines where appropriate.
