Cache protection module Broadcom CVPM02
The Broadcom CVPM02 Cache Protection Module is designed for use with Broadcom 9361-16i and 9380-8i8e RAID controllers to preserve cached data during power interruptions or system failures. It provides non-volatile protection for controller cache, ensuring cached writes are retained and automatically transferred to flash when power is lost, then restored when power returns. The module uses CacheVault technology to reduce maintenance needs and lower total cost of ownership compared with battery-backed alternatives.
CacheVault® technology secures cached data without relying on Lithium-ion batteries by using a super-capacitor and non-volatile NAND flash, which minimizes hardware maintenance and environmental impact. The CVPM02 enables automatic transfer of cached data to flash during power loss and automatic restoration on power-up, maintaining RAID performance and improving overall system reliability and data integrity.
Install the CVPM02 module into the designated CacheVault slot on a compatible Broadcom RAID controller following the controller manufacturer’s installation instructions. When the system is operating, the module remains idle until a power event occurs, at which point CacheVault automatically provides power to critical controller components and transfers cached data to non-volatile flash. After power is restored, cached data is returned to controller cache and normal I/O operations continue.
Verify compatibility with your specific RAID controller firmware and follow Broadcom/LSI installation and firmware update procedures. Periodically check controller diagnostics to confirm cache protection status and ensure the module is seated correctly. For optimal results, use the CVPM02 with supported Broadcom controller models listed in the product documentation.
