Drill Bit for Metal MODECO HSS cylindrical 8.5 mm set of 5 (MN-60-485)
Drill Bit for Metal MODECO HSS cylindrical 8.5 mm set of 5 (MN-60-485)
MODECO HSS cylindrical drill bits, diameter 8.5 mm, delivered as a set of five. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) with a straight cylindrical shank, these bits are intended for drilling holes in a variety of metals and common ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Their geometry and durable cutting edges suit both handheld drills and bench-mounted drill presses, offering reliable performance for routine workshop repairs, fabrication and general maintenance where precise metal drilling is required.
The HSS material provides good hardness and heat resistance during cutting, maintaining edge sharpness under typical drilling conditions. The cylindrical straight shank design ensures secure clamping in standard drill chucks and reduces runout. Supplied as a set of five, the bits provide consistent diameter availability for repeated tasks and reduce downtime for replacements. The 8.5 mm diameter is suitable for medium-sized holes without the need for special tooling.
Mark the drilling location and secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement. Select the 8.5 mm HSS bit from the set and tighten it securely in the drill chuck. For best results, use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling metals to reduce heat and prolong bit life. Start at low to medium speed when drilling thicker or harder materials, apply steady pressure without forcing, and withdraw occasionally to clear chips. After use, clean chips from the flutes and store the bits in a dry place.
For longer tool life and improved hole quality, pre-drill pilot holes for large holes or when working in hard steels, maintain correct drilling speeds for the material, and use cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or other heat-sensitive alloys.
