Hand Tap Set MODECO M6 3-piece (MN-62-036) — M6 threading, manual taps
MODECO hand tap set MN-62-036 contains three manual taps designed for cutting internal M6 metric threads. The set is intended for creating or repairing M6 female threads in metal and other machinable materials. These tools are intended for use with standard hand tap wrenches or T-handles and are suitable for workshop maintenance, light fabrication and repair tasks where accurate M6 threads are required.
The three-piece set provides a complete progression of taps for reliable thread cutting: tapered starter tap for initial alignment, intermediate tap for continued cutting, and bottoming or plug tap for finishing. Manufactured to metric M6 dimensions, the taps deliver consistent thread geometry and fit with corresponding M6 bolts. Their manual operation allows controlled cutting in delicate or thin-walled workpieces and in locations where machine tapping is impractical.
Secure the workpiece and drill the correct pilot hole diameter for an M6 thread before tapping. Start with the tapered starter tap and align it perpendicular to the workpiece to ensure straight threads. Turn the tap slowly with a hand wrench, advancing a few turns and then reversing slightly to break chips. Continue with the intermediate tap to deepen the thread and finish with the plug or bottoming tap to achieve the required thread depth. Use cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tool life. Clean chips from the hole frequently to prevent binding.
For best results, use the full set sequence (tapered → intermediate → finishing) and apply a suitable cutting lubricant for the material being tapped. Match the pilot drill diameter recommended for M6 threads and avoid excessive force; back off the tap periodically to clear chips. Store taps in a dry place to prevent corrosion and inspect before use for wear or damage.
