Flat Cold Chisel MODECO MN-63-487, wide blade 100 x 215 mm with protective guard
MODECO flat cold chisel MN-63-487 features a wide 100 x 215 mm blade and an integrated protective guard. This hand tool is intended for cutting, shaping and removing metal or masonry by striking the rear end with a hammer. The broad blade provides a larger contact area for splitting, trimming and paring tasks, while the protective guard covers the striking zone to reduce direct hammer impact on the handle and to limit wear on the tool.
The wide blade design increases material contact area, enabling efficient removal of larger sections of metal or masonry with fewer strikes. The protective guard improves user safety by shielding the striking area and reducing the risk of glancing blows or mushrooming of the chisel shaft. The chisel’s hardened cutting edge maintains shape under repeated hammering, and the overall geometry supports controlled, accurate work on both metal and masonry surfaces.
Position the flat chisel edge against the workpiece at the desired cutting or splitting line. Hold the chisel firmly by the body, keeping the hand clear of the protected striking zone, and strike the rear end with a suitable hammer using controlled blows. For metal work, start with lighter taps to score the material, then increase force as needed. For masonry, use steady, repeated strikes to remove material in layers. Inspect the cutting edge regularly and dress or sharpen it as necessary to preserve performance.
Use appropriate eye and hand protection when striking the chisel. Select a hammer of suitable weight for the workpiece to avoid excessive stress on the tool. Store the chisel in a dry place and check the protective guard and blade for damage before each use; do not use if the guard is cracked or the shaft shows severe deformation.
