Mammut Smart 2.0 Belay Device, Aluminium and Steel
The Mammut Smart 2.0 is a high-performance tubular belay device engineered for climbing safety. Constructed from a combination of durable aluminium and steel, this device provides reliable rope handling and locking capabilities. Its design is based on the tube principle, ensuring smooth rope payout and effective braking during a fall. Weighing only 80 grams, it is a lightweight and essential tool for sport climbing enthusiasts.
The Smart 2.0 features an intuitive design that requires no moving parts or levers, making it simple to operate. The newly developed high-performance brake insert interacts directly with the belay carabiner to block the rope effectively in the event of a fall. This geometry is specifically tailored to support the belayer's natural reflex movements, providing enhanced security and optimal support during both lead and top rope climbing.
This device is not designed for use with ropes outside the specified diameter range of 8.7 to 10.5 mm. It may not be suitable for users who prefer mechanical assisted-braking devices with complex lever systems or those climbing with very thin or thick ropes.
To use the Mammut Smart 2.0, thread the climbing rope through the device according to the markings. Ensure the device is attached to your harness using a compatible HMS carabiner. During belaying, maintain a firm grip on the brake side of the rope. In the event of a fall, the device's geometry causes the brake insert to pivot and lock the rope against the carabiner, effectively arresting the climber's descent.
Mammut recommends the use of the Smart HMS carabiner with the Smart 2.0 to ensure the braking mechanism functions as intended. Always perform a partner check before starting your climb.
