Pocket knife Opinel 1700 Camper/scout Green
The Opinel 1700 Camper/scout Green pocket knife is a compact outdoor folding knife designed for light camping, scouting and everyday outdoor tasks. It uses a traditional slip joint construction and has an 8 cm clip point blade with an overall open length of 17.5 cm. The handle is crafted from varnished hornbeam wood to resist moisture and surface marks while keeping the knife lightweight at approximately 37 g, making it easy to carry on hikes or in a pocket.
The slip joint mechanism provides reliable, tool-free opening and closing without a locking action, suitable for non-tactical outdoor use. The clip point blade profile offers a good balance of precision and general-purpose cutting, useful for food preparation, rope work and small carving tasks. The varnished hornbeam handle combines natural grip and basic protection against moisture and scratches, while the knife's low weight and compact folded size make it unobtrusive to carry.
To open the knife, hold the handle firmly and pivot the blade outwards using the nail nick until the slip joint engages. Use the clip point blade for controlled slicing, peeling or cutting fibers, keeping fingers clear of the cutting edge. After use, fold the blade back into the handle until the slip joint holds it closed. Regularly clean the blade after contact with food, sap or saltwater and dry thoroughly before folding and storage.
Maintain the blade with periodic cleaning, light oiling of the pivot area and occasional honing to preserve cutting performance. Store the knife dry and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture to protect the wood handle and steel blade. The slip joint design is not a locking mechanism; exercise caution and avoid heavy prying or tasks that require a locked blade.
