The PENTAX WG-8 is a compact, rugged waterproof camera designed for outdoor use, travel and underwater shooting. It combines a back-illuminated 1/2.3" CMOS sensor with approximately 20 effective megapixels, a 5× optical zoom lens (28–140 mm equivalent) and a durable metal-reinforced body that withstands dives to 20 metres. The camera offers 4K movie recording, a large 3.0-inch LCD with an Outdoor View Setting, built-in GPS and a digital compass, plus a multi-LED ring light for macro and close-up work.

How to use

Turn the mode dial to select still or movie modes or choose from preset scene modes for specific situations. Use the vertical zoom button for framing with the 5× optical zoom. For close-ups, switch to Macro or 1 cm Macro mode; the Ring Light can be adjusted across nine intensity levels to optimize lighting. To record location data, enable GPS; the camera will embed position, UTC and compass direction into image data. Connect the camera to a computer via the supplied USB cable and set the camera to UVC mode to use it as a Full HD webcam at 30 fps.

Usage recommendations

For optimal underwater colour, use the dedicated Underwater or Underwater Movie modes to correct white balance. When shooting macro subjects, experiment with Ring Light intensity and selective LED activation (horizontal or vertical groups) to reduce shadows and emphasise contours. Charge the battery fully before extended outdoor use and enable Outdoor View Setting on the LCD for better visibility in bright sunlight.
