Product information

Description

The Pentax WG-8 is a compact, rugged camera with an approximate 20 MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor, 5x optical zoom (28–140 mm equivalent) and 4K (3840 x 2160) movie recording. The camera body is waterproof to 20 m for up to two hours, dustproof, shockproof to drops from 2.1 m, crushproof to 100 kgf and cold-resistant to −10 °C. With a lightweight construction (approx. 215 g) and durable sealing, the WG-8 is built for demanding outdoor use including underwater and in wet conditions.

Advantages

The WG-8 combines a high-sensitivity 20 MP sensor and a high-performance image engine to deliver high-resolution, low-noise stills that retain detail when cropped. The 5x optical zoom lens covers wide-angle to short-telephoto views within a compact body, and the camera supports 4K video recording with up to 25 minutes or 4 GB per file. Robust environmental protection (IP68-equivalent), shock resistance, crush resistance and cold tolerance make the camera suitable for harsh conditions.

Suitable for

  • Underwater photography and snorkeling (to 20 m, limited to specified conditions)
  • Outdoor activities in rain, snow and dusty environments
  • Travel and adventure where a lightweight, durable camera is needed
  • Landscape wide-angle shots and moderate telephoto subjects (28–140 mm equivalent)
  • Recording 4K video clips for outdoor or action scenes

Key specifications

  • Sensor: Approx. 20 effective megapixels, back-illuminated CMOS
  • Lens: 5x optical zoom, 5–25 mm (approx. 28–140 mm equivalent)
  • Video: 4K (3840 x 2160), single file max 25 minutes or 4 GB
  • Durability: Waterproof to 20 m for up to 2 hours (IPX8/IP68-equivalent), dustproof (IPX6-equivalent)
  • Shockproof: Drop resistance up to 2.1 m (Ricoh testing, MIL-Standard related)
  • Crushproof: Up to 100 kgf
  • Cold resistance: Operable to −10 °C (note: image count may fall at lower temperatures)
  • Storage: Built-in memory (~68 MB); SD/SDHC/SDXC cards (microSD via adapter not recommended)
  • Weight: Approx. 0.215 kg
  • Sensor size: 1/2.3"; Sensor type: CMOS

How to use

Power on the camera, set image quality and recording mode from the menu, and insert a supported SD/SDHC/SDXC card or use the built-in memory for storage. For stills, choose ISO manually or leave on AUTO; available ISO settings include 125, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200 and 6400 (when Shake Reduction is ON, the maximum selectable ISO is 1600). Use the zoom ring to frame subjects between wide-angle and telephoto coverage. For 4K video, select the 4K movie mode; note that a single movie file is limited to 25 minutes or 4 GB.

Usage recommendations

Although the WG-8 is tested to IP68-equivalent waterproof and IP6x-equivalent dustproof standards and to Ricoh drop/crush tests, waterproof performance is not guaranteed after impacts. Accessories are not waterproof. Use recommended SD/SDHC/SDXC cards and avoid microSD via adapters; operating time and image capacity may decrease at low temperatures.
